Default Idea: Stylist NPC (Possible Money sink

This idea comes from a number of ideas already on the forum, but since its clear that A.Net read SOME of what we say here, I figured that I may as well make a thread on its own... search function for the lose!

What's a Stylist NPC?

As we all know, you can select your character's hair colour and other options at the start of the game, which once confirmed / saved will forever more remain like that. The idea is that a stylist NPC would be able to change / add new things to our character appearance at cost.

Not only would it give all players an area to spend money on, we'd all benefit by being able to make their characters look better and stand out more from the 200+ red headed female elementalist clones running about for example.

so what services will the stylist NPC have?

- Change Hair Style, A.Net could add some more in as well (Factions and Nightfall ones for example?)
- Change hair colour
- Add additional special items including:

+ Earrings
+ Flashy Finger Rings (Very unlikely)
+ Tatoos (For other classes other then Monk and Necro)

Note: The main focus of this is hairstyles, of course asking for ear rings and little things like that is a bit too much.

- Maybe add extra stuff, like special new clothing items which give no AL bonus, but look different:

+ Scrafts
+ Head Bands

- AND for the final special feature... DYE PREVIEW!

Note: Well at least the above was added, Glasses in GW:EN for example. And we have dye preview. So there is some hope.

Pros:

- MONEY SINK... cost of items will go down with less money floating about.
- More in-game character options
- Reduce the problem of "Cloning" that's going on. There only so many ways to look different.

Cons:

- There are cons?
- Could be expensive? Depends on the costs.
- Increase of lag? Not really... a few extra bits of player models wouldn't really do much in the long run.

I ADORE this idea. One thing I feel very very strongly about is that I should be able to look unique. The more character appearance options the better, and I don't know anyone who disagrees.

We NEED this. It would be awesome not only for just the options but for those who are bored of their appearance late in the game and want to change it.

Implement this!...please?

This has already been mentioned, already argued, already supported... and unfortunately (and I mean that in the most serious way possible) already sunk to the dredges of the forum. The good thing is a new thread means new interest and I support this idea 150%!!! I think it's fantastic. Especially if they offer up aesthetic options that aren't available when crafting your character.

I completely agree with this. The ideas stated above are great, and the stylist should at the very least allow a player to re-select the hair color, hair style, and face (and possibly body size and skin color?). There is no reason not to enable a system which is technically implemented already. Those who want to change their appearance can do so, and those who do not want to are not hurt or affected by those who do.

Out of the many topics suggesting an idea like this, the only remotely valid reason I've seen against it is that it's unrealistic. But even that's not entirely correct either. Makeup has been around since classical Greece (and probably earlier), so a hair or face change is not unrealistic. Also, people do grow and shrink and tan and pale (although very slowly) so even these things wouldn't be far-fetched.

Great idea. Maybe there could be extra hairdos and colors you can only get at the stylist.

While I doubt extra models would be added I do really like this idea.

I think this would be an awesome idea! It'll be good for those times that you realize your character looks like someone else or is uglier then you thought. Or, just to change them up sometimes.

I love this idea, even though it does smack a little of SIMS :P But seriously, I think it would be able to change your look at will instead of being stuck with a 'paper doll' sort of thing that everyone else has.

I'm almost positive Guild Wars would implementh something like this, I remember reading an interview in which someone asked about a possibility of a beauty merchant, the Anet representative said it was a great idea and they had no reason to not do it.

How do you see finger rings & headbans and etc through armor? Or do you wear it on top of armor?

Moneysink? for who? The people who keep the prices high... AKA the rich people will find 500g a joke, and the poor people, tryign to e cool will spend tons of money on it... doing it would be the equivalent of creating a greater rift between rich and poor.

for the hair style/shade shop definately (i only took ele red hair as my ele is a red mage type lol hehe and she is *supposed* to have red hair...or sometimes be bald, im not 100% sure lol)

i would thing the easiest way to implement it in game (since, if you read the :factions info they say that they are not updating vanila guildwars bar the usuall balance issues as soon as factions is out, and any additional stuff is all going into factions..sigh..still, they do say the Seasonal stuff will continue...)
set up so that all hair styles and colors are available to all players once in the stylists menu...so i could make a monk girls at starter menu, then once i had the cash, go to the stylist and pick blue shade of hair and say....that nice flower in the hair slightly curly Ranger girl hair.....
or i could have a ranger girl with green shade and necro gals 3 split braids in a bun on each side of ther head hair....same for the fellas....
a necro dude with elementalists hair in ranger brown, for example

we do need a hairstylist because i have on numerous occasions deleted a char because i dyed my armor one color and it looked really good but it did not go with the hair color i put on my char to begin with. so i agree we need hairstylist.
